CLEVELAND, Ohio – Danielle Sydnor is a local leader, a business consultant and president of the Cleveland chapter of the NAACP.
Sydnor – originally from Sacramento, California – moved to Cleveland in 1995. Her jobs and duties keep her busy: She is founder and chief executive officer of We Win Strategies Group, a business consultancy agency. But she’s a foodie who still finds time to enjoy good food locally and out of the region.
Each week we survey a notable Clevelander about where they like to eat. Here are Sydnor’s choices:
1. What’s your favorite restaurant and why?
J. Alexander’s Restaurant. It always made me feel like I was going somewhere fancy, but the prices made it feel reasonable. My favorite meal was the steak ‘n’ fries. I would get an extra side of the Maitre d’ butter melted to pour on my fries! (J. Alexander’s has Ohio locations in Columbus and Toledo.)
2. Favorite dish you have ordered from anywhere?
Whole fried red snapper with fried plantains in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. It was seasoned perfectly with a nice external crunchiness, but the meat is moist and tender. (Fajardo is on the eastern edge of Puerto Rico, less than 40 miles from San Juan.)
3. Favorite dish to make at home?
Southern fried-smothered chicken in gravy with white rice and collard greens. Learned this from my dad and mom; both could cook!
4. What is your favorite brunch or breakfast spot?
