Ricardo’s, 2112 East Lake Road, recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of a fire that destroyed everything but the cinderblock frame of the restaurant, which has been going since 1963, according to manager Cathy Merski.
“We were shut down seven months and it cost $1 million to rebuild,” she said, adding that the loyal employee and customer base saved the business, and they’re doing the same now.
“I don’t know what was worse, the fire or the pandemic,” said Merski, who said she’s been at the restaurant 40 years. She has bittersweet memories of the night of the fire.
