MIDDLESEX COUNTY — A flag emblazoned with Middlesex College’s new logo, officially trumpeting the school’s bold, new direction, ascended outside College Center.
Once it reached its zenith, the assembled school officials realized it was upside down.
On take two, the flag unfurled correctly, everyone shared a good laugh and spontaneous applause broke out.
Whether it was the Baby Shark dance contest or the thumping music or the flag faux pas, there was an air of newfound fun during Thursday’s event.
This apparently isn’t your grandfather’s college, back when it was known as Middlesex County College. Evidently, there’s a new attitude to go with its new name.
“The sense is this is a positive change and we want to be positive about it, not stuffy,” said Middlesex College President Mark McCormick. “I think it’s all part of the same package. When there’s a change in leadership, when there’s a change in whatever you’re doing, I think people take notice and whether or not they like it, they start to talk about it. Hopefully, that leads to people wanting to get on board with whatever the positive feelings involved.”
