SAN ANGELO — This self-taught artist works through various mediums to create art for her studio in San Angelo.
Megan Gentry paints, makes jewelry, resin art and mugs, and teaches private art lessons in her studio at the Chicken Farm Art Center, 2503 Martin Luther King Blvd.
“I do a little bit of everything,” Gentry said. “For the art lessons, they are primarily for kids and we work on what they need. I love seeing them blossom whenever they are experiencing the joy of art.”
Gentry opens her gallery, Megan Elizabeth Art Studio, by appointment only.
“Whenever you need me, I’ll be here,” she said. “Saturdays are a good day to catch me, since I’m usually here in my studio anyways.”
Gentry took time to answer questions about her business.
How did you get started in this business?
By managing Painting with a Twist. When it closed down, I bought all of their supplies and started running my own lessons and opened up my gallery. It was an awesome transition from Painting with a Twist to the Megan Elizabeth Art Studio.
Who was your biggest supporter when you started?
My mom, Beth, she helped out a ton. My husband, Forest, was a great supporter too, along with my daughter, Willow. She is just my biggest cheerleader.
I picked San Angelo as a business location because…
I love San Angelo because there’s not a whole lot of cut-throat competition. It’s a very friendly art environment. Everyone is super supportive and they love seeing others succeed. It was just a match made…
