An interview with Nintendo’s Bill Trinen reveals that despite the comparisons to Majora’s Mask, the sequel to Breath of the Wild is “its own game.”
The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild might give off similar creepy vibes to Majora’s Mask, but Bill Trinen has stated that it is its own game separate from Majora’s Mask. Majora’s Mask has always stood out as a Zelda title due to its unique themes and sinister ambiance, which no other Zelda title has replicated thus far.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask may not have been as critically acclaimed as Ocarina of Time, but in some ways it stands out more than its predecessor. Its NPCs have a lot of the same designs as Ocarina of Time, but being able to see everyone’s struggles with the end of the world along with the dark tone the game offered made Majora’s Mask a cult classic among Zelda fans. Both trailers of Breath of the Wild 2 give off similar creepy vibes comparable to Majora’s Mask, and fans are also reminded of the older title thanks to the upcoming game’s status as a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild.
