The Gay and Lesbian Network name and logo has changed from the Gay and Lesbian Network to Uthingo (Rainbow) Network.
Director and founder of Uthingo Network and Uthingo Network staff Anthony Waldhausen said the organisation’s five-year strategic focus will also shift to rural communities in KwaZulu-Natal.
The aim is to facilitate whole systems change and development processes, which will lead to a significant impact and improvements in the life chances of rural LGBTI people.
“To our knowledge, no other LGBTI organisation on the continent is working on change in rural communities using this kind of indigenous, facilitative approach,” Waldhausen said.
“This documentation and the insights arising from our work in communities and other institutions will inform our wider influencing agenda,” he said.
“This is the most exciting time in the history of the Gay and Lesbian Network to Uthingo Network as it will usher in major changes for the organisation.”
